We help humans become happier and more effective leaders through a unique training and experiential programming curriculum.

Given the current COVID environment we are offering a suite of courses and training programs digitally to help leaders and organizations with their balance, happiness and joy. We are former business leaders and wellness experts who understand the stresses of the corporate environment.

Below you will find links to our live, digital intro to mindfulness courses. These courses are 90 minutes long and teach the basics of mediation. Our online courses are taught by Neil Markey, below is a little more information about Neil’s path. If you would like to explore longer custom training options please contact us:

“My name is Neil Markey. I served in the US Army Special Operations within the 75th Ranger Regiment with one trip to Iraq and two to Afghanistan. I have an MBA/MIA from Columbia University, was a top performing consultant at McKinsey and Company and most recently was a C-Level executive for a $500M private equity, distributed services business. I have started two >$1M revenue organizations from scratch, led >$100M private businesses as a C-level executive and consulted for dozens of >$1B businesses across numerous industries. After a long road of depression, PTSD and near suicide, I found another path through wellness practices. Frankly, meditation saved my life. I went on to deepen my practice and earned a teachers certification in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) meditation at Jefferson University. I have taught senior level executives and top teams meditation to improve their wellness and be able to lead and collaborate more effectively. I led the McKinsey and Company internal mindfulness program and was the first consultant to teach meditation to our clients which included some of the most senior leaders at our intelligence agencies. I also led the Columbia Business School Mindfulness for Business Leaders program. I am motivated by helping others find balance and happiness - so they can live a life of more joy and contentment and be their best selves. I have seen this work transform people and allow individuals to become better employees, partners, family members and friends - it’s life changing. The warrior in me is also motivated by the macro challenges of our time and no matter how I think about how to “take a bite out of the elephant” feel that the only way to create positive change in the world is ultimately through individual transformation. I want to help people find more alignment, balance and joy - this is my life’s work.”

Neil Markey - mindfulness meditation

Neil Markey is the founder of Maryland Mindfulness and a former McKinsey consultant and C-level private equity, portfolio company, executive for $200-$500M businesses.  Neil is also a self proclaimed reformed “unhappiness” expert.  Prior to his business career, Neil was a captain in the Army Special Operations, 2d Ranger Battalion, and was deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. While completing a dual MBA/MIA master’s program at Columbia University, Neil sought out a mindful meditation practice to improve his own mental fitness and quickly realized the benefits of the practice in his life, work and relationships. Neil has led and participated in multiple workshops, retreats and trainings and was an assistant instructor for the Mindfulness for Business Leaders program at Columbia University. In 2015, Neil completed a mindfulness teacher’s practicum through the MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) teachers training program at Jefferson University’s Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine. While at McKinsey, Neil co-led the internal mindfulness program for consultants and was the first consultant to offer meditation and mindfulness training to clients and top teams.  Neil hopes to continue to unveil the mystique and confusion around mindfulness and make a mindfulness practice easy to understand and accessible to everyone.

Mindfulness and Safety

Mindfulness can not only improve employee satisfaction, creativity and retention but there is growing research around the benefits of mindfulness in regards to workplace safety.  The University of California Irvine found that 70% of major workplace injuries are the result of an employee who was inattentive or distracted.  Maryland Mindfulness can provide resources and onsite workshops for mindfulness based safety trainings and internal corporate programs.
